According to this press release, GDS [Globalcom Data Services] has signed a contract with Alcatel to supply an end-to-end triple play-ready solution. Network deployment is expected to start in the first quarter of 2006.
Habib Torbey, CEO of GDS said:
Alcatel’s end-to-end solution will make Globalcom the first broadband provider in Lebanon, in line with the broadband initiative recently launched by the Lebanese Ministry of Telecom. It will help us deliver the features and services, such as fast and reliable access to information that our customers want. Alcatel’s portfolio and unrivaled expertise in triple play make it the ideal partner as we initiate such services.
The dailystar reports that the first ADSL service will be launched in March or April at rates that are compatible with EU countries, according to Mr. Marwan Hamade, Minister of Telecommunication. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with representatives of Internet Providers, and Data oporators have been licensed, allowing the companies to use the govermnment’s cable networks to install and operate their services.
