Free Cellphones? well, that’s Google’s latest project idea. According to Eric Schmidt, Google CEO, they intend to implement something like AdSense in mobile phones.

On Saturday he told Reuters mobile phones are becoming hand held computers. He went on to say, “Your mobile phone should be free.” Schmidt later in the conversation acknowledged that cell phones may never be “totally” free, but they could follow a similar trend to newspapers and become much less expensive.

Personally
, I wouldn’t mind using an ad-supported cellphone as long as the ads are targeted and somehow discrete. It’ll also depend on which cellphone they’ll give you (specifications, etc). Anyway, someone would eventually be able to hack the firmware and get rid of the advertising, but that would push Google to discontinue their service on the long-term.

What do YOU think? would you use an ad-supported mobile phone?
