Well, it seems that my expectations are confirmed, I have been too optimistic about the upcoming DSL service in Lebanon due this March. DSL won’t be this service we’ve been dreaming of. Lebanon’s international cable does not have the capacity to offer DSL on a large scale, causing the ministry to charge data providers an artificially high price for access to the cable and state-owned telephone lines DSL uses. TheDailyStar reports that the DSL plan will be split into two stages: the first will begin late March, and will allow 6 ISPs to offer 360 customers each in Beirut. The second stage will take place 6 month later and will offer the service to the rest of the country.
